Custom Timber Windows and Doors for a One Tree Hill Home

Bespoke joinery bringing traditional character to a new build

A new home doesn’t have to rely on standard windows and doors.

For this substantial new build in One Tree Hill, the design incorporated traditional forms and detailing, including curved bay windows, distinctive head windows and timber French doors. PK Joinery was responsible for the home’s exterior and interior joinery, manufacturing bespoke pieces that helped establish its character from the outset.

With curves and more complex geometry appearing throughout the design, the project required the precision and craftsmanship that come with experience in custom timber joinery.

Creating character from the beginning

Traditional timber joinery is often associated with the renovation of older homes, but the same craftsmanship can bring depth and character to a new build.

At One Tree Hill, the architecture called for window and door forms that went well beyond standard rectangular openings.

Curved bay windows create prominent features within the exterior elevations, while head windows and French doors introduce further traditional detailing. These elements contribute significantly to the identity of the finished home, but their geometry also makes them more demanding to manufacture.

Where curves, angles and multiple joinery elements meet, accuracy becomes particularly important. Each component needs to be carefully crafted so the finished joinery works as a cohesive whole.

Bespoke manufacture for complex forms

PK Joinery manufactured the timber joinery specifically for the home, allowing the windows and doors to follow the proportions and forms required by the design.

The curved bay windows are a particularly strong example of this approach. Rather than treating the window as an isolated element, the individual components need to come together to form the larger architectural feature.

Head windows introduce another level of complexity, with curved forms requiring specialist joinery skills that are very different from manufacturing conventional square windows.

The project draws on the same traditional craftsmanship used in heritage and character joinery, but applies it within a completely new home.

That combination gives designers greater freedom to incorporate distinctive timber features without being limited to standard joinery configurations.

Timber windows and doors throughout the home

PK Joinery’s involvement extended beyond the feature windows, with the team manufacturing both exterior and interior joinery for the residence.

French doors continue the traditional design language while creating connections between the home’s interior and outdoor areas. Throughout the house, the broader joinery package helps maintain consistency in the proportions, detailing and overall character of the design.

This whole-home approach also demonstrates the versatility of bespoke timber joinery. Not every element needs to be a statement piece. Feature windows can sit alongside simpler doors and joinery, with each contributing to the overall result.

Traditional craftsmanship in a new home

The One Tree Hill residence demonstrates that character doesn’t need to come with age.

Through its curved bay windows, head windows, French doors and wider bespoke joinery package, traditional forms have been incorporated into a new home in a way that feels deliberate and cohesive.

For PK Joinery, the project showcases both breadth and technical capability. From complex curved windows to interior and exterior doors, each element was manufactured specifically for the project.

The result is a home where custom timber windows and doors are not simply functional components. They are an important part of the architecture and the character it was designed to create.
